How high of a swing speed can the Spiralock® connector handle?
We have player tested this to 115 mph clubhead speed and have had no shaft movement nor connector failure. We do not recommend Spiralock® be used for golfers with a swing speed higher than 115mph.
How durable is the Spiralock®?
Spiralock has been tested to over 2000 installations of tightening and loosening. The unique design that allows the shaft to pass thru the connector gives it great strength as no shear points are created where stress will cause failure as has been seen in other connectors. In addition, the proprietary Spiralock 30° ramp thread design allows for far more thread life and durability than any conventional type of threading.
Is Spiralock® available only from TWGT?
TWGT is the exclusive distributor for Spiralock®. Worldwide there are several TWGT partners that will be distributing the Spiralock® in their regions and countries. Please see the contact information on the back of the 2010 TWGT catalog for availability worldwide.
Does Spiralock® require any special tools for installation?
No. To tighten the connector and the lock nut commonly found open end wrenches are used-12 mm for the .335” and ½” for the .370” adapter.
What is the availability of the Spiralock® connectors?
The Spiralock® 0.335” connectors for drivers, fairways and hybrids will be available February 1st. The 0.370” Connectors for irons will be available April 1st.
Does Spiralock® require any special or additional shaft trimming?
No. The pass thru design means that the Spiralock® connectors allow for full shaft insertion to bottom of bore. Therefore, all shafts simply use the same tip trimming as they would for normal installation into any clubhead to replicate a normally assembled golf club.
Is shaft orientation/alignment fixed with the Spiralock® connector?
No. Because the Spiralock® connector uses no epoxy to secure the shaft to the clubhead, the shaft can be repeatedly rotated into any spine alignment positions desired.
Is the Spiralock® connector legal for USGA play?
No. The USGA has ruled the Spiralock® connector as not conforming for play as it uses commonly available tools for installation and adjustment. Spiralock® is not intended to be used for actual play since it is designed for use as a fitting system aid to allow golfers to “try before they buy” to experience the full benefits of custom fitting in an instant connect and hit manner.
How many connectors do I need?
The unique pass thru design means that you could use a single connector for all heads and shafts of the same tip and bore diameter, but we recommend having at least two of each size for a smoother, faster and more efficient fitting process.
Can other companies’ clubheads be used with the Spiralock® system?
Yes. The heads simply must be tapped with the proprietary Spiralock® 30° ramp threading. We offer this service for $20/head for non-TWGT clubhead models, with a 2-3 week turnaround time. Please contact us for further details.
Can other TWGT models not listed as tapped for Spiralock® use be bought/ordered?
Yes, TWGT will install Spiralock® threading in any of our clubheads for an additional fee of $10/head. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery of such special requests.
Can Spiralock® be used with any head?
The connector can be used with any head of 0.335” or 0.370” bore diameter as long as the head has been tapped with the Spiralock® proprietary 30° ramp threading.
Is the threading of the hosel bore of the clubheads for the Spiralock done at TWGT?
No it is not. Accurate threading of the hosel bore requires more specialized equipment so all heads for Spiralock® are threaded by a machine shop authorized by the Spiralock® Company with the experience, proper machinery, and fixturing to do this properly.
Can I tap and thread my heads without going thru TWGT?
Taps and gauges to cut the special Spiralock threading can be purchased directly from Spiralock® Company, but they are significantly more expensive than ordinary taps for threading because of the very unique Spiralock 30° wedge ramp thread shape. Additionally, there is the cost of fixturing the head properly to ensure that the threading is done correctly and accurately and this is no small feat particularly when cutting threads in a Titanium or 17-4 stainless steel clubhead. Typical drill presses will not be able to thread heads. If you feel you have the experience, training and equipment to properly cut threads in harder metal alloys and you are interested in purchasing the taps and gages to thread your own clubheads, we can provide you with the information to contact Spiralock directly about the specific tap and gage and blueprint requirements.
What is the Spiralock® connector made of?
The connector is CNC machined from aircraft grade Aluminum.
Is the Spiralock® thread technology used in other industries?
Yes. It has been used for many years in the aerospace, oil and gas, medical, automotive, and construction industries. You can find more information at www.spiralock.com
Is the Spiralock available for .355” Taper Tip heads and shafts?
No. There are no plans to offer a taper tip version.
Can other companies send heads directly to TWGT to be threaded?
Yes and please do contact us so that we know what to expect and when.
If I live outside the US, what are my options for having heads threaded?
Currently, the only other country that can thread heads is the UK. We are working on Germany, Sweden, Malaysia and South Africa to offer this service as well. Please contact us for additional information.
Can a .350” head be threaded and use the .335” Spiralock Connector?
Yes. The head is reamed and threaded to larger than .350” so this is an option. However, a .335” shaft still has to be used to ensure proper connection.
